Pin-Testing

Pinterest is one of my favorite sites and I could easily waste my whole day on there. I would, too, if they hadn't blocked it at work. Damn corporate restrictions. Tragedy would really strike if they ever blocked Blogger. I don't know what I would do. I'm getting off-topic, where was I? Oh yes, Pinterest. If you haven't already, you should totally follow me. I have great taste.

Anyway, I wanted to actually try out some of the cool stuff that I pinned and so I am here to share my pin-trials with you. Be excited. The first one that I ever tried was the Make Your Own Laundry Soap.

I have to say, this one is fabulous. We have actually made this twice now in the past year and I will never go back to buying laundry detergent again. It smells fantastic and really gets our clothes clean. And if you saw how dirty Emmeline gets after a day of rolling around in the dirt (I'm not even slightly exaggerating), you would be impressed.
First you get together your ingredients:
1 4lb 12oz box Borax
1 4lb box Arm & Hammer Baking Soda
1 3lb 7 oz Arm & Hammer Washing Soda
2 containers OxyClean (or generic substitute)
3 Bars Fels Naptha or you can use another brand of bar soap

You will need to grate the bars of soap using a cheese grater and then dump everything into a large bucket with a lid and mix it all up with your hands. I got a cheap 5 gallon bucket at Wal-Mart when I bought all the ingredients. I keep the majority of the soap in the bucket and I have reused the OxyClean containers to keep a smaller portion for daily use. I use one scoop, sometimes two of the detergent and that is plenty.
My big bucket - I can't even tell you how good this smells
One scoop will do ya. The yellow stuff that looks like cheese is the grated soap.

Another pin that intrigued me was this little gem:

I thought surely Kool-Aid powder could not make your lips look that good. I have tried this on two separate occasions and got similar results the same time. I got and orangey-red color since the only flavor I had was Cherry. She gives you a list of flavors and corresponding colors on her website.

Now, I did not pour it into a separate container to start with. I left it in the little pouch. It is actually still in my bathroom because I don't want to throw it away and waste it. I neglected to moisten my lips before I started as well. That was a mistake. This is unsweetened powder and once you lick your lips after the powder is on there, prepare to pucker because that stuff is tart. It actually hurt my tongue a little bit. I ended up using the Q-tip for the full application instead of my finger and it was easier to get full coverage on my bottom lip than the top. After I had rubbed in all the powder I could stand, I got the Q-tip wet and then rubbed it over my lips. That seemed to help. Oh, and you'll have to make sure and wipe it off of your teeth when you're done, too.

Overall, I was pretty pleased with the look. The first night I wore it out I actually got compliments on my "lipstick". Of course, I had to tell my friends what it was and they were all impressed. The second time I did it was for work and it pretty much lasted all day long. Here are a few pics for color reference.
Beware the black demon eyes

This was about halfway through the day at work
